Have you ever noticed that some people seem to get great service everywhere they go? This isn’t just plain luck. It’s the result of having the ability to turn on their charm.  If you want to receive good service, you need to be pleasant and charming to the service provider. Turning on your charm will make the other person feel appreciated and want to give you more.Graciousness and charm are the keys to being treated well. Most service providers are grateful when their customers have treated them with kindness. The easiest way to get what you want is to make a pleasant request and deliver it with a sincere smile. Manners are also very important. You’ll be more likely to have your requests met when you use the word “please” along with a gracious smile, eye contact, and a warm tone of voice. Here are five tips to help you to turn on your charm:

  1. Greet everyone you meet with enthusiasm. Treat each person like an old friend who is special.
  2. Pay careful attention when the other person is speaking. Show that you are sincerely interested in what they’re sharing. When people feel listened to, they feel happier and they’ll equate feeling good to talking to you.
  3. Be generous with “thank you’s.” Gratitude shows others that you appreciate what they’ve done and they will be more drawn to you.
  4. Show people they impress you with a sincere compliment. If you like something or someone, find a creative way to say it and say it immediately. If you wait too long, it may be viewed as insincere. If you notice that someone is putting a lot of effort into something, compliment it, even if you feel that there is room for improvement.
  5. Never over-explain anything. Doing this simply confirms a lack of self-esteem, or shows you don’t trust that others have understood your point. Or it may be perceived as arrogance because it demonstrates a feeling on your behalf that your listeners cannot think for themselves.

Being charming is about making others feel good when they are around you. If you observe successful, highly respected people, you will notice that most of them  usually have a quick smile, know how to talk to people in a professional but friendly manner, and can very easily sway people to their point of view. They have earned their position by impressing the right people at the right times. Being charming has become part of their personality. A charming person is one who draws others to them because they emit warmth and confidence. These are both important things to have when you’re talking about careers. But when you learn how to turn on your charm, you will also be rewarded with better service.
